Taste. Savor. Enjoy. I’m a valley boy; spent 23 of my years in the Spokane Valley. Went to Sunrise Elementary, Evergreen Middle School and am a proud graduate of Central Valley High School (class of 1990 thank you very much). Valley Fest was always an annual event to look forward to. Last year, the event got even better with the addition of Taste of the Valley wine tasting. This year, the event is coming together as one of the biggest Spokane wine bargains of the year!

Value! $30 gets you catered food from Red Rock catering, music from Kathleen Cavender and the Hot Club of Spokane on the CenterPlace outdoor stage. The evening continues with a spectacular hot air balloon night glow illuminating the Spokane Valley skies against the picturesque surrounding mountains. Sounds like quite a deal!

But wait, there’s more…if you act now you can double your…

Hold it…this is starting to sound like an infomercial or something. Actually there is more, a lot more. We haven’t even talked about the fact that $30 gives you access to taste wine from 30 award winning Washington wineries. At a cost of $1 per winery, this is starting to sound like quite a deal. To top it off, if you find a wine you like you can actually BUY it. Most wine tasting events you go to are “pour only” events. Taste of the Valley has now become the perfect place to test drive some wine you’ve always wanted to AND take it home with you if you like it.

$30 is quite the bargain for this little soiree. Tickets are limited, so don’t delay in getting in on the action. The event is Saturday, September 25 from 6-8pm. YOU MUST be 21 and have a valid ID to enter…duh. Join us at Mirabeau Point Park, CenterPlace event facility. Tickets will be available at the door, but I wouldn’t take your chances. Contact 509.922.3299 or visit www.valleyfest.org for tickets.

WANT TO GO FOR FREE?!?

O.K. Here is the deal. We need your help to spread the word about the event. We know you love wine (or you wouldn’t be here reading this), and we know you are on Facebook (who isn’t). To qualify for 2 FREE TICKETS to Taste of the Valley click the little tiny SHARE icon that is at the top and bottom of this post. Leave a comment to let me know you did it and you’ll be entered to win. Our goal is to have 100 people share the event so Valley Fest can save some money on advertising. Will you do it? THANKS!

March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality. With major accomplishments that led to the Polio vaccine in the 1950’s, creation of newborn intensive care units in the 70’s, treatment of respiratory distress syndrome in the 80’s, folic acid education in the 90’s and their ongoing awareness activities, March of Dimes is a champion for those that can’t stand up for themselves…babies. As a five year supporter of the March of Dimes in Spokane, I am proud to be this year’s winery chairperson for the 2010 Signature Chef event on October 2.

My wife served on the board of directors for the Spokane MOD and was a beneficiary of their efforts when her son, now 13, was nearly born several months pre-mature. If it weren’t for the education, awareness, and treatment that March of Dimes provided, that little guy may have come out only half baked (even now we still wonder…).

The Spokane Signature Chef event brings together Spokane’s top chefs and the area’s top wineries for a miracle filled evening of food, wine, auction, and charity. Previous events have risen over $50,000 to support the March of Dimes. This year’s head chef is Chef Ian Wingate of Agave Latin Bistro and Moxie. Ian is recruiting a team of local culinary artists to serve you. Ten area wineries will be pouring in support of the babies as well.

The event is being held at the Lincoln Center, 1316 N Lincoln with wine, food and silent auction from 6:00-8:30. The live auction begins at 8:30. Sponsorships are available. There are lots of great causes to support. We encourage you to consider joining us in support of the babies! For more information and to purchase tickets, visit http://www.marchofdimes.com/washington/43550_65846.asp

How Can I Help?

Help spread the word by clicking the little ReTweet or Share buttons at the top and bottom of this page. This will help get the word out without the MOD spending tons in advertising. Sharing is caring.

Consider attending the event or if you own a business, consider sponsoring the event. You can contact the local director, Darah at dheinemann@marchofdimes.com to learn about sponsorships.

Contribute to the live or silent auction. If you have products or services that could be donated, please contact Darah as well.

Stay tuned for how you can win two tickets to this fantastic evening.

What do you love about Spokane? For me, I love the green hills and mountains that stand in majestic contrast with the brilliant blue sky during the summer! While no city is perfect, Spokane is near nature and near perfect (hence the city tag line). Our mid-size metropolitan area runs at a peaceful slow pace while offering the culture of a larger urban hub. How many cities afford you the location to get in a round of golf, spend the afternoon on the lake, hike in the mountains, and enjoy world class restaurants, shopping and wine without driving all over the place?

This weekend two local wineries have very special announcements listed below. Stay connected to all things wine in the Spokane Weekend Wine Events listing that now includes “My Daily Wine” (a list of other wine activities that happen every day).

All Weekend

Take a tour of the local wineries. Most are open. Visit this link for hours, reviews, wine recommendations, videos and more. http://drinknectar.com/spokane-wine-tour/

This week’s highlight winery is Barrister Winery. Greg Lipsker and Michael White have expanded their hours and announce a very cool new partnership with local restaurants to encourage wine local and dine local. Visit Spokane Wine Magazine for all the details and a brief video interview with Greg.
